Joachim Frank

Professor Joachim Frank was awarded the 2017 Nobel Prize in chemistry for developing cryo-electron microscopy for the high-resolution structure determination of biomolecules in solution. He is Professor of Biochemistry and Molecular Biophysics and of Biological Sciences at Columbia University, and Distinguished Professor of the State University of New York at Albany.  He is a Fellow of the American Association for the Advancement of Science and the Biophysical Society, and received the 2014 Franklin Medal in Life Science. Professor Frank continues to push the state-of-the-art with time resolved cryo-EM, mechanistic studies of bacterial and eukaryotic ribosomes and ever higher resolution cryo-EM reconstructions.
